Kiama Independent and Shoalhaven Advertiser. Thursday 16 August, 1866.

CRICKET MATCH
Cricket is reviving in Kiama again. We understand a match is to be played at Albion Park on Saturday next, 29th instant, between eleven of the Kiama club and eleven of the Albion Park club, for a dinner. We hope to see our Kiama team victorious, as most of them are only "colts", one or two having never played in a match before.
Kiama Independent and Shoalhaven Advertiser. Thursday 27 September, 1866.

KIAMA V. TERRY'S MEADOWS AND SHELLHARBOUR

The contemplated match between eleven of the Kiama cricketers and eleven chosen from the above mentioned places came off on Saturday, 29th instant, at Albion Park. We feel sure that had any of those narrow-minded and prejudiced persons who cry down cricket as an amusement, been present at the match, and seen the social and friendly feeling which characterised the players who took part in it, their objections would not only have been removed, but had they possessed the common attributes of philanthropy, they would have become its warmest advocates.

The match terminated in favor of the Kiama eleven, as will be seen in the score, though they appeared at a great disadvantage, being composed chiefly of young players, indeed the juvenile appearance of some of them created a feeling of mirth on the side of our friends at the Meadows; nevertheless, the event showed that the "boys" are not to be held too cheap. The Kiama Club had to contend against an aboriginal named Mickey Johnson, who some of our juvenile players thought they could do anything with, but they found that Mickey was made of good stuff and not be trifled with, having got 16 runs in his second innings. There was some very excellent play on both sides. We cannot help mentioning particularly the excellent bowling of Messrs. Hughes and Downs, and the batting of Messrs. S. Marks, John Hughes, Dare, and the "darkie" on the Shellharbour and Meadows side. The bowling and batting of our old friend A. Gordon was, as usual, good, as also the batting of Messrs. W. C. Hines, W. C. King, T. King, R. Allen, A. Cook, and W. Chapman on the Kiama side. The match commenced by the Meadows and Shellharbour men going first to the wickets to the bowling of Gordon and King, who succeeded in getting a wicket each in their first overs respectively. This innings was soon over, the Miendows and Shellharbour side scoring 42 runs. The Kiamas then went to the wickets to the bowling of Hughes and Downs. The bowling of these two gents was desperately in love with the bails, and to obstruct their object of molesting them, required, as we heard one of the Kiama men remark, " very sharp practice." At the conclusion of this innings, which left Kiama 20 runs in advance of their opponents, the players partook of a luncheon provided on the ground, and a cup of tea, whlich tended greatly to raise their spirits. During this time at shower of rain fell, causing the second innings to be disagreeable to both sides, the ground being wet, and the ball so slippery that it was aImost impossible to hold it. The Meadows and Shellharbour in their second innings retired with the very creditable score of 71. The Kiama team went to the wickets again, and won the match by three runs with six wickets to fall.

After the match was over, all repaired to Mr. Beatson's hotel, where a dinner was provided, which did great credit to Mr. Beatson. The appreciation of its excellence was shown by the ample justice done it. At the conclusion of the dinner several toasts were proposed. "The Meadows and Shellharbour Eleven", proposed by Mr. James Marks, was responded to by Mr S.Marks on their behalf. The " Kiama Eleven" proposed by Mr. S. Marks, was responded to by Mr. T. King. Mr T. King then proposed the " Umpires." Mr. S. Marks responded on behalf of Mr. Swan, and Mr. W. C. King on behalf of Mr. A. Wood. Several other toasts were proposed and responded to, among which were - theHost and Hostess", " Scorers", "Our esteemed cricketer from Jamberoo", and Iast not least "The Ladies".
As it was now growing dark, being early 7 o'clock, and the Kiama men anxious to get home, all dispersed, after uniformly asserting that it had been one of the jolliest days they had ever experienced, having enjoyed themselves as cricketers only can.
Kiama winning by three runs, with six wickets to fall.
Arrangements were made for the return match on Wednesday, 31st instant, when a closer contest is expected.
