1873/74 Match 7 - 29/8/1874 : Kiama Alberts C.C vs Albion Park C.C.

A very agreeable and exciting match took place on the Kiama Cricket ground on Saturday last, between eleven of the Kiama Alberts and an equal number of the Albion Park C.C. Play commenced at about 11 o'clock. Mr. R.King, captain of the Kiama club, having won the toss sent his opponents to the wickets, who were disposed of for a total of 42. Kiama then went to work, and succeeded in scoring 39; when the players retired for lunch, which was gratuitously provided by Messrs. R. King and S. Reid: and after having done ample justice to the eatables, the Albion Park players went again to the wickets, Messrs. Marks and Brownley going in first. These two held their wickets for a considerable time, though they scored but few: and the eleven were disposed of for a total of 34, which left them 37 ahead of the Kiama players. Messrs. King and Richardson were the first to appear at the wickets in the second innings of the Alberts, and showed very fair signs of winning the game themselves, as they were not parted til the score reached nearly 30, when Richardson skied a ball to long field, and was caught by Marks. Nicholson joined King at the wickets, and had the honour of contributing one to the score, when the stumps were drawn, Kiama winning by three runs and the loss of only one wicket in the second innings. The batting of Messrs. Marks, Crowley and Beech, on the Albion Park side, was very good, as was also that of Messrs R.King, Richardson and Maher for Kiama. The bowling of the brothers Crowley for Albion Park, and that of the brothers King for Kiama, was also very good; but the bowling was rather loose on both sides.
