The series of matches between the two Kiama clubs commenced on Saturday last, when a most creditable game was played - creditable alike to both sides. Everything being in readiness, the contest began at a little before 11 o'clock, which allowed time for it to be fought out. The United team went first to the wickets, and ran up a score of 76, - S. Gordon contributing 27, John Spinks 17, and Christie 11: and the Alberts in their first innings secured 70, 6 short of their opponents - R. King making the handsome score of 45, E. Maher 11. After lunch, and without loss of time, the United commenced their second innings, and were not quite as successful as in their first - they put up a total score of 54, - John Spinks making 13: thus leaving their opponents 61 runs to get to win. The early part of the Alberts' second innings bespoke an easy victory for the opposite team; but by the good batting of Nicholson the game was made at its close a most exciting one. When the last man went in there were only a few runs to get; and as each unit was added to the score, the cheers of the spectators, who generally sympathised with the Alberts, rang through the air. Nicholson and Howell made the scores a tie amid enthusiastic cheers. The ball was then given to Nicholson, when he gave a clean hit for 3 to field-on. The cheers were deafening from the crowd; but it would be impossible to describe the chagrin of the disappointed ones on seeing the ball fall into the hands of Osbourne, planted just in the right place, - and thus the game ended in a tie, a remarkable event in the history of cricket. The bowling and fielding on both sides showed a great improvement on former matches; and A. Gordon deserves special commendation for his handling of the ball at the wicket. Messrs. G. L. Fuller and G. Chapman acted as umpires, whose decisions gave the utmost satisfaction.
