A match was played on the cricket ground, Kiama, on Saturday last, between eleven of the Illawarra Club from Wollongong, and a team chosen from Kiama and neighbourhood, which resulted in an easy victory to the former. The Illawarra men had come down to play the Jamberoo cricketers, but on arriving at Jamberoo, they found no one on the ground, and were informed that it had been arranged the match should be played in Kiama. It was close on eleven o'clock when they arrived here; and the manner in which they played after their ride down, shows plainly what the Kiama men may expect should they venture on a return match at Wollongong. In our last issue we published the names of the eleven first chosen to represent Kiama, and had they played, we believe, the result of the game would have been far more to our credit than as it now is. The Illawarra men were the first at the wickets, and made sixty-two runs for their innings – Galvin going in fifth, and carrying his bat out, having placed twenty-seven runs to his credit. The Kiama players only made a total of thirty-nine; and out of this number fourteen were got by S. Gordon. After lunch, the visitors again took to the wickets, and at six o'clock (at which hour the stumps were drawn) they had made 126 runs; J. Galvin having scored fifty-six, and J Rathmall thirty-four.
